RocketMill's founders resisted all takeover interest in their digital marketing agency, fearing the potential buyers would not be the right cultural fit for the Brighton-based business. Now they have found the perfect new owners for the company: the staff.
Twelve years after it was founded, RocketMill has become an employee-owned business. The move will allow staff to benefit from tax-free bonuses, on top of equity and a profit-share scheme which was already in place.
Founded in 2009 with the ambition to help small businesses interact with customers online, the company modernised their approach by building websites and marketing them on Google. Today, RocketMill is one of the largest independent marketing agencies in the UK working with a host of like-minded brands.
RocketMill believes an agency is only as good as its people; their talent and happiness defines the success, and their behaviour defines the culture. That is why its philosophy is to put people first, beginning with its team.
RocketMill's Diversity and Inclusion committee meet on a monthly basis to discuss upcoming events that the organisation could celebrate in order to ensure teams were talking about diversity and understanding the importance of an inclusive workforce. Its most recent initiative was to celebrate Black History Month, with the committee organising cinema screenings centred around the observance.
The company also partnered with Brixton Finishing School to support its mission to deliver a diverse talent in its sector. The school offers a 10-week programme for 18 to 25 year olds, focusing on finding untapped talent.
