Saffron Housing Trust's people are at the heart of everything it does. Their motivation, support and engagement is critical to the delivery of the corporate plan, which promotes a positive, inclusive and respectful culture with a strong focus on service improvement.
The trust was formed in 2004, when 4,300 homes transferred from South Norfolk Council. Since then it has grown by almost 50% and manages 6,448 homes, 99 per cent of which are in Norfolk and Suffolk.
Saffron provides affordable homes for those in need. It offers specialist homes for older and vulnerable adults and is committed to providing new homes to help solve the housing crisis.
Its 228 employees are passionate about delivering excellent customer service — 90.4% of tenants surveyed said they were satisfied that staff were polite and professional.
Saffron has been given the highest ratings for governance and viability by the government's Homes and Communities Agency and is dedicated to earning the greatest levels of trust and confidence from key stakeholders.
The organisation acknowledges how hard its people work and their commitment to its future. Its exciting engagement and benefits platform means staff can recognise colleagues and take advantage of a range of discounts.
As part of its Positive Future Strategy, it prioritises opportunities to get involved and the happiness of staff. A social activities planner gives them the chance to interact and have fun.
People in my team go out of their way to help me
The motto since the pandemic has been “Remote but Connected”. Microsoft Teams is used to keep staff in touch with colleagues. The My Rewards programme allows them to thank a colleague or let them know they are thinking about them. It also provides discounts and has advice on wellbeing and finances.
My organisation encourages charitable activities
Within five weeks of the start of lockdown, Saffron had a volunteering programme in place, working with South Norfolk Council. It redeployed 68 staff, about a third of its workforce, to volunteering roles, helping tenants and the local community via the council's Help Hub.
The experience I gain from this job is valuable for my future
Saffron launched a new online learning portal in lockdown and employees have been completing self-directed learning on a wide range of topics from leadership to data security. Employees also completed online learning on Agile Projects and the company has started rolling out customer service training to all non-management staff.
