THE GOOD NEWS for staff at this property-investment group is that expectations are high for the new company headquarters. There are plans for a football pitch, tennis courts, a lake with woodland, and a social building complete with full-time chef. Mark Stott, the chief executive, has worked for 11 years at Select Property Group, which runs sites from acquisition through to building management. He believes the employee focus at the 70-strong Cheshire-based group ensures happy customers and prosperous investors — good news for two former retail bosses, Sir Stuart Rose of Marks & Spencer and Terry Green of BHS and Debenhams, who invested in the privately owned developer last year. The workforce has faith in Stott (98% positive, the top score among Best Small Companies) and are inspired by him (96%, second). They also have confidence in senior management (94%), believing they live the organisation's values of excellence and integrity (96%). Every Monday morning at 8.45am every team member meets in the sales office for a kick off meeting. The London team skype in from the office so that all team members know what is happening across the UK. This boosts motivation for the week and allows all departments to update the rest of the company with the main highlights from the previous week and what they are looking forward to that week. In addition to this and to encourage interaction between departments and offices, Select Property Group holds regular social events both in and out of work time to allow all team members to participate, regardless of personal circumstances. Examples of this have been a series of summer lunch parties at both the Alderley Edge and London office – Paella Day, BBQ Day and Pizza Day are just three examples. All events are run simultaneously in both Alderley Edge and London with group images and video calls made in real time in order for the two offices to bond.
