PEOPLE MAY BE communicating in 17 different tongues at SilverDoor, but they firmly believe that the company talks their language. The serviced-apartment agency based in London's trendy Chiswick is back in the top 100 after a year away. Its 87 international employees, 41 of whom have joined in the past year, say the best thing about the company is the shared sense of Wellbeing it engenders — for which it ranks 23rd with a positive score of 76%. It's a buzzy place with a staff whose average age is 25 and the mix of men and women is roughly equal. They work brokering serviced apartments for (mostly) business clients, and that's why it's such an asset that the team, who say they have a lot of fun together (94%, a top-eight score), are multilingual. A recent edition of Inside SilverDoor, the firm's newsletter, revealed that people built a grotto of Christmas presents in the office of faith-inspiring (92%) managing director Marcus Angell, and that the SilverDoor Roaring Lions football team have been a success. It also featured a picture of staffers Daniel Godsall and Jack Bryson visiting a client in Prague armed with a corporate umbrella. Back in London, the office is equipped with a modern kitchen and a large games area stocked with sofas, pool and air-hockey tables, darts and table football. The company provides subsidised gym membership whose rates reduce with each year of service, and there are regular social events and industry functions to attend. The firm recently introduced a SilverDoor Academy training scheme and gives every new graduate, apprentice and placement student a mentor for the first year. A 2014 team-building highlight was a weekend conference for all in Malaga, at which everyone was asked to get to know at least two people they hadn't previously spoken to, and report back “two interesting facts” to Angell. This sociable approach means some people have never had a bad day at work (47% positive, a top-25 score). www.silverdoor.co.uk
