The Entertainer opened their first store in 1981, nearly 40 years of hard work later, they have nearly 172 UK stores and 16 international stores trading in exciting locations such as Azerbaijan, Egypt and Pakistan. Despite incredible growth, The Entertainer still strive for a family atmosphere amongst their teams and in their stores. People are central to the business, right through from Saturday and evening staff to the store managers and head office teams. Great teamwork is key to the running of a successful business and their vision of becoming the best-loved toyshop. The Entertainer know that a work-life balance is essential and it is for that reason that they do not trade or open their office and warehouses on Sunday's, even in December, so everyone can have a day of rest with friends and family. They know how precious time with family and friends can be so employees can always be guaranteed that they will keep Sunday's special. The organisation believes in investing back into the communities they serve. This starts with donating 10% of the company's profits to charity each year, and a significant number of their people give to charity through the 'payroll giving' scheme each month. At store level customers are given the opportunity to give a few pence electronically when they make their purchase at the till. In all locations of the business, their people actively reach out to and make relationships with schools, charities, local businesses and like-minded organisations. They want to be part of the communities in which they trade and operate, not just another building on another high street or business park.
