Throughout its four specialist digital agencies, TIPi Group has stepped up to respond quickly to a period of rapid change. As clients' needs evolved during the pandemic, so did the group's working model – its resilience tested in every way from communication to training.
CEO Ollie Bishop and his “tribe of experts” were determined to stay true to the culture at the core of the London-based operation, which serves a range of clients from small fashion boutiques to finance giants.
The aim since 2015 has been to create a family feel where people know they are building something together and feel incredibly valued.
Ollie called at least three people each day for an informal chat, while monthly meetings turned weekly to reassure the company's 55 staff and explain changes so they were never blindsided. At the same time, formal and informal opportunities to give feedback were ramped up at its agencies – ROAST, Kitty, The Market and Rabbit & Pork – providing digital services from search engine optimisation and analytics to platform development, media planning and buying, and voice experience.
A buddy scheme has been introduced pairing individuals with a different staff member every two weeks so nobody feels alone in a crowd.

The flagship TIPI Academy offered to meet training needs in the community for people hoping to upskill while on furlough or following redundancy. Its two-week introduction to digital marketing was transformed into 26 free online classes to give people a taste of the industry, adding a certificate for their CV.

A house system creates an extra level of connection and support. The five houses – Gravy, Mash, Stuffing, Horseradish and Cauliflower Cheese – provide a family so people always have someone to turn to outside their immediate team. They host social events and houses can win an extra day's holiday in TIPi Group games.

Feedback from anonymous surveys has been overwhelmingly positive about the level of support during the pandemic. As well as equipping everyone to work from home, the company's social committee – drawn from all disciplines and levels of seniority – organised a full diary of social events to liven up lockdown.
