‘Independent in ownership and spirit’
PR and social media agency WPR is used to doing things differently, helping it to build a loyal team and trusted client relationships.
The Birmingham-based award-winning business – which offers clients a full range of services from strategy and SEO to design and evaluation – is focused on nurturing talent. Fifty per cent of its team joined as work experience students, interns or juniors.
And its mentoring ambitions don’t stop there. It’s launched its ‘Next Gen’ insight and learning experience to enthuse aspiring comms professionals, giving them a better understanding of the industry and a taste of agency life. They get dedicated one-on-one time with the agency’s experienced team and leave with a CV-boosting WPR accreditation. More than a third (37%) of those completing a placement have applied for permanent roles.
And WPR employees get competitive salaries. A salary banding increase and an uplift to offset rising NI contributions mean those who’ve served more than 12 months have seen their wages increase by an average of 22 per cent since the start of 2022.
Employees also share in the agency’s success through a profit share scheme, getting a bonus equivalent to an extra month’s pay if the business hits even its lowest target.
And gym gear, roller skates, a mattress and a pasta maker – these are just some of the things WPR employees have put their yearly £100 wellness grant towards. They’re free to spend it on anything that improves their physical or mental wellbeing.
My team is fun to work with
Dedicated team days in the office and fortnightly drop-in brainstorm sessions led by the senior creative director keep people connected and energy high. Colleagues can bring their dogs to work on much-loved ‘Waggy Wednesdays.’ And the Thrive committee always ensures there’s something to look forward to, from monthly breakfast club to celebratory events.
I love working for this organisation
Employees are encouraged to live positive, fulfilling lives at work and home. WPR’s Live Free Fund – established in memory of colleague Zara Free – allows colleagues to apply for a portion of an annual £10,000 for life-enriching experiences. As a result, employees have enjoyed experiences like climbing Mount Fuji and yoga teacher training.
This job is good for my own personal growth
Every fee earner at WPR gets £7,400 worth of training a year through its ‘Wisdom’ programme. It includes sessions with an independent trainer on topics like managing workload and board-level behaviours. They also get training on technical skills such as feature writing, access to specialist external courses and qualifications, and fortnightly learning lunch sessions.
