Just because they are working from home doesn't mean staff at the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) can't share a bit of office banter with their colleagues. The world's leading professional body for accounting professionals has created an internal social media group called “Water Cooler Catch-ups” where employees are encouraged to share light-hearted posts alongside team updates and vote for quarterly bake-off competitions.

It is also a platform for sharing information on events such as Christmas Jumper Day and includes the Monday Morning Message from chief executive, Mark Farrar.

Based in London with branches across the UK, the charity founded in 1980, works with 130,000 members in more than 100 countries. Around 80% of the FTSE 100 employ an AAT apprentice within their finance departments. The organisation provides qualifications, support, information and resources to everyone from students to people already working in accountancy and self-employed business owners, and is committed to investing in its staff, too.

The organisation aims to be a great place to work by helping everyone get the most out of their job, offering flexibility and autonomy as well as career development and benefits including enhanced maternity, paternity and shared parental leave pay.

During the pandemic, people have had to adapt very quickly to new ways of working and AAT believe in trusting and rewarding its staff to work hours which suit them and their circumstances and where the organisation has been unable to give pay awards, it has given additional time off to staff.
