Admiral showcased its dedication to not only its employees when the pandemic took hold, but also to the community around them.
The South Wales-based insurance provider launched the ‘Admiral Support Fund', which gave staff the chance to suggest beneficiaries of a £6million commitment to help those affected by Covid-19.
As a result, hundreds of suggestions were received from employees and, from these alone, over £1million was donated to over 200 different organisations, from charities and healthcare providers to food banks and schools.
Admiral also showed its commitment to the wider business community affected by the pandemic, teaming up with companies that were making redundancies, including Debenhams and Brains, to offer support and new opportunities for their employees.
As a result, Admiral has attracted a wide talent pool and has been able to provide employment to people at risk of being made redundant.
The new recruits have become part of the Admiral family, where the philosophy of ‘people who like what they do, do it better', is integral to the company's culture and has seen it create an environment where employees look forward to going to work.
To ensure this feeling continued despite the challenges presented by Covid-19, it launched a number of initiatives including ‘Team Time', a company-wide scheme to help teams stay connected.
Delivered through an online hub, Team Time enabled employees to not only join in with colleagues in a range of fun online social activities and events, but also to enter prize draws to win team-building packages.

This job is good for my own personal growth
Shortly after the start of the first lockdown, Admiral revamped its ‘Buy a Book' scheme so that staff could purchase books from home to support them in their role or personal development. In 2020, the company spent £65,285 on books.
I am happy with the balance between my work and home life
New wellbeing content and online courses geared towards support during the pandemic were launched, including ‘Coronavirus Mental Health Support' and ‘LGBT+ Mental Health in a Time of Lockdown'. All employees were awarded an extra five days' annual leave as a thank you for the work they put in over 2020.
