Appello uses monitoring technology to help housing, health and social care organisations to improve the lives of their customers, patients and residents. It also runs CareNet, a helpline.

The company employs around 400 people in three offices in in Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire. It has become the market leader in two technology-enabled care services markets, supporting 230,000 people to live safely in their own homes.

Its Smart Living Solutions system offers improved safety, security and wellbeing to elderly and vulnerable people.

Chief executive Tim Barclay recognises the role of strong communications and provides all employees with weekly updates on financials, customer wins and staff rewards and recognition.

Staff are rewarded through schemes such as Acing It and Personal Best, and the Goody Cupboard also supplies awards. The company's culture stresses a blend of technology and people as the key to success, so extra mental health training has been provided for managers to support their teams and to share best practice throughout the company.

It is proud of its involvement in industry-wide initiatives. The chief technical officer and commercial director are part of a British standards technical working groups in recognition of their experience and leadership in driving change.

Appello gives something back by supporting a local sixth form and its students. It conducts workshops that include mock interviews and feedback to help prepare them for job interviews.
