Audit Scotland, the Edinburgh-based public sector organisation which gives independent assurance to the people of Scotland that government money is spent properly, efficiently, and effectively. It prides itself on its values of openness, honesty, and transparency.
In order to demonstrate this to employees, the organisation’s CEO, Stephen Boyle, holds informal ‘coffee and chat’ video sessions that are open for everyone to attend. Leaders are also present when inducting new starters, attending team meetings, or supporting charitable activities.
Audit Scotland’s employees are involved in auditing 225 public bodies, including the government, the NHS, police, councils, universities and education centres, local utilities, and committees. To ensure they get the most out of their work, everyone has a values-led role profile, which helps them focus on the purpose of their job, as well as offering a level of flexibility and creativity in how their work is delivered.
The organisation is proudly a 'Disability Confident Employer', which sees it make long-term commitments regarding recruitment, training, retention, consultation and disability awareness. This includes actively looking to attract and recruit disabled people, providing a fully inclusive and accessible recruitment process, and ensuring employees have appropriate disability equality awareness.
