At Bramall Construction clear prospects, rewards for performance and the development of potential all offer a solid foundation on which employees can build their careers. A privately-owned company, Bramall aims to be the market leader in community regeneration in the north of England, working primarily in social housing and educational refurbishment, as well as in new building projects for the public sector. It was founded by the Bramall family in 1931 and they are still the majority shareholders. Employees are proud of how the company engages with the community. It works with the Outward Bound Trust to deliver team challenge days for schools and a mentoring scheme introduces schoolchildren to all aspects of the construction industry. There is a policy of promoting from within. Neil Baxter and Dave Prescott, the two managing directors, joined as quantity surveyors 28 and 20 years ago respectively. Personal growth is evident at all levels and there are clear career paths for all, with apprentices becoming tradesmen, tradesmen becoming site managers and managers becoming heads of departments. It follows that employees say they love working for Bramall (a 75% positive score), that they believe Prescott runs the business based on sound moral principles (76%) and that they have faith in him (80%).
