Two-way communication is a proud feature of Bush & Co, the award-winning case managers specialising in support services to transform lives following catastrophic injury. When the pandemic turned working life on its head, employees were already used to asking questions of senior managers and receiving open and transparent answers. The company's teams in Daventry, Northamptonshire, and Glasgow moved to a work-from-home model in just one week without missing a single customer call.
After listening to feedback from staff, Bush & Co set up a section of the communications platform with links to trusted sources of information during the pandemic and trained all managers on the psychological needs of staff, bringing in team chats to combat loneliness. Furloughed staff were included in staff bingo, quiz and award nights, and had their own news bulletin.
The company was founded in 1986 by Paul Bush MBE, who became a paraplegic following catastrophic injury. With the largest national network of case managers and expert witnesses, the company's work with solicitors and insurers was recognised in the Personal Injury Awards in 2019 and 2020 as well as winning Gold accreditation in the Investors in People award scheme.
Bush & Co's values – passionate, driven, curious, unified – guide all decisions and appraisals, and attract new recruits. A record 4,700 cards were posted on Bush & Co's digital WOW wall in 2020 to commend employees who worked hard and demonstrated the values.
