Developing people is one of the strategic priorities at Caledonia Housing Association, one of Scotland’s leading providers of high-quality affordable homes for people in housing need.

From creating a leadership competencies framework and initiating a succession plan, to creating personal learning plans, the association promotes the idea of staff increasing their knowledge and competency in areas that have an impact on their role, as well as improving their technical skills. Leaders stress the importance of learning from set-backs, valuing progress and taking time to share feedback with their teams.

The association owns and manages more than 7,000 homes in eight local authority areas. More rented social homes are owned and managed in the Renton area of West Dunbartonshire by Cordale Housing Association, a subsidiary of Caledonia. Its strategy is based on providing homes and services that make life better.

It is a registered social landlord and a charity that provides low-cost home-ownership and rental properties. The association caters for diverse needs, offering mainstream housing for families, couples and single people, as well as supported accommodation, retirement and sheltered housing, and other specially adapted properties, including those designed for wheelchair users.

A workforce of almost 200 carries out a broad range of roles relating to housing, care, development and regeneration. Staff benefits include 33 days' holiday a year, which increases with service, and the ability to use flexi-time.

Quote from the top...
At Caledonia our people are crucial to us being able to work towards our purpose of providing homes and services that make life better. Every day, our staff work incredibly hard to support some of the most vulnerable people within our communities and do so with inspiring dedication and compassion. In turn, we are committed to listening to our team's thoughts and ideas of how to continue to make Caledonia a great place to work, where people can be their authentic selves and be supported both personally and professionally to grow and develop. Our Best Companies feedback will support us in continuing these conversations and making long-lasting, positive improvements to our organisation.
