Staff at Cass Business School have only to ask if they think they can improve their working environment. The school constantly seeks input and feedback to help shape strategies and policies. Consequently, through encouraging employees to voice their opinions, the school is considered by staff to be open and friendly as well as supportive. Employees give their managers a 77% positive score for their caring attitude, they also give colleagues 76% for being fun to work with and 75% for their managers caring about their job satisfaction. Cass Business School is part of City University, London, offering a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and MBAs. It is the first university department to make our list in six years. Communication is transparent and simple. The dean hosts a coffee morning each term to ensure staff have an opportunity to speak to him on an informal basis. Employees say managers speak honestly and openly with them (80%). The school offers about 20 prizes annually worth up to £30,000, which cover excellence in teaching and research and, unusually for the sector, customer service, as well as going the extra mile. Employees feel they make a valuable contribution to the organisation (82%) and that appreciation is regularly expressed (77%).
