This Derby-based firm has powered up the Best Companies list with the help of team building events such as competitive go-karting. The company gets its best relative scores for staff wellbeing, and people agree that they haven't suffered from work-related stress in the past year (an 87% positive score). They are happy with the balance of work and home life (80%) and don't feel they spend too much time working (71%). Holidays such as Christmas get off to a good start with a party and hamper for every employee. Paint and panel technicians make £21,000 a year, but everyone has performance-related bonuses, a car allowance, childcare vouchers and company discounts. People have school hours, flexitime, and annualised contracts, and some can work from home. Everyone has an annual medical screening, managers and above get free private health insurance including their families, and there are contributory and non-contributory pension schemes. Mark Grogan, chief executive for the past 12 years, has a quarterly staff meeting with the entire workforce , and people find him inspiring (89%). Managers are trained with external courses and specialist coaching, and employees say they help them fulfil their potential and motivate them to give their best every day (both 80%). The company also supports its local community (74%). It matches funds raised for charity and supports events for good causes such as Cancer Research and When You Wish Upon a Star, which tries to make dreams come true for sick children.
