When a need for affordable housing for rent was identified in north London in the mid-1960s, the church-based Christian Housing Action Association stepped into the breach. Today, it manages or owns almost 1,600 homes in Enfield, Barnet, Haringey and Waltham Forest, working with the public, private and voluntary sectors to provide high-quality housing services.
They are landlords for a challenging range of clients, from young people who need a home and ongoing support to retired older people seeking security, peace of mind, and the help required to allow them to continue living independently in their local community.
Christian Housing expects its team of 100 knowledgeable professionals to operate on its shared values of fairness and dedication to community service and as a people organisation understands that wellbeing is important. Regular pulse surveys are held to find out what challenges its team members are facing and if additional support staff are needed.
There is a ‘Simply Health' employee assistance programme, weekly wellbeing calls from line managers and the HR department and virtual physiotherapy for desk-bound colleagues. A social committee sets up fun online activities to keep the team connected.
The senior management team is expected to live the association's values and as part of a small organisation “roll their sleeves up” when necessary to help their teams provide the best service they can.
