In 1960, college lecturer Bill Curtin gathered together his brightest engineering students to join a consultancy he launched from his home in Liverpool.

Today, Curtins is an award-winning leading consultancy with 14 offices across the UK and Ireland, specialising in the built environment. Its services include civil and structural engineering, transport planning and environmental, infrastructure, geotechnical, conservation and heritage projects.

Bill's commitment to nurturing individuals so that they fulfilled their potential throughout their careers still burns bright today. The company provides continual and structured staff-development opportunities through its apprenticeship scheme, Graduate Academy, Step Ahead management programme and individual training support.

The company recognises that the opportunity to spend quality time with loved ones away from the office is vital for maintaining health and happiness. It has four holiday lodges in the Lake District and Cheddar Gorge that are available for staff and their friends or families to use as a reward for their efforts.

Commitment to company values is what breeds the strong family culture at Curtins. It works hard to ensure these values run through every strand of the business.

The company has recognised the need to address gender inequality by founding the first Recognising Women in Engineering awards in partnership with the New Civil Engineer magazine. The annual awards are an opportunity to celebrate some of engineering's best female role models and share a strong and impassioned message that has attracted media coverage and been reflected in recruitment at Curtins.
