Property recruitment consultancy Deverellsmith believes it is the first business to reward staff for their contribution to its culture. It has introduced a "culture bonus" which awards every member of staff an annual bonus based on their service to candidates and clients and the way they live the company's values. Every staff member is given the Culture Bible, which details the values and how they can demonstrate them.
Founded in 2006 by chief executive Andrew Deverell-Smith, it has 60 staff in the UK and a branch in New York. It recruits across the spectrum of the property industry, from housing developers to property managers and investors. The forward-thinking organisation hosts a digital podcast series that interviews trailblazers and major players in the property industry, as well as staging quarterly webinars and events.
Giving back is close to the company's heart. Deverellsmith was the supporting founder behind Do Some Good, a charity platform for property firms that raised money and provided support for those who were vulnerable during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In recent years, Deverellsmith has also supported groups who suffer from under-representation within the property industry, including women and ethnic minorities. Its Devgives programme aims to raise awareness, fund and offer resources where possible.
Meanwhile, the company has put in place a strategy to become certified by the B Corporation, a process whereby businesses are required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers and to be accountable and transparent.
