East Midlands Chamber aims to encourage businesses in the region to become greener. It has launched a Sustainable East Midlands initiative, along with sustainability forums and stages a summit each year. The campaign highlights the opportunities available to businesses, provides examples of organisations already successfully engaged in the low-carbon agenda and showcases the support available to those that want to learn more.
The chamber, which covers Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, aims to be the top of the league when it comes to helping businesses flourish. It is the leading business organisation in the East Midlands and the second-largest Chamber of Commerce in the country.
It helps its staff to flourish, too, by offering a range of benefits, from professional development opportunities to social events and away-days. After listening to employees, it has introduced wellbeing checks and established an events and social committee to boost camaraderie.
Staff are offered training, coaching, mentoring, job shadowing, study leave and corporate social responsibility activity days. They are given two paid days a year to volunteer. The chamber is a Disability Confident Leader and has an active equality diversity and inclusion network. It has also received a silver award from the Armed Forces Covenant.
The chambers offers employees 25 days' annual leave, plus their birthday. It has an agile-working policy and a rewards system to recognise exceptional members of the team.
My manager regularly expresses their appreciation when I do a good job
The management development programme caters for managers and those with the potential to be managers. It develops leadership skills through key-speaker and training sessions, along with offering the ability to develop and expand a participant's network of like-minded individuals, internally and externally. Management training sessions include wellbeing awareness.
My organisation encourages charitable activities
The chamber raised a record-breaking £15,000 last year and the money was donated to the Treetops Hospice, in Risley, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and the Focus Charity in Leicester, which transforms young people lives through inspiring and empowering projects and volunteering opportunities.
I feel proud to work for this organisation
East Midlands Chamber's values are "be creative", which invites staff to challenge tradition and make a difference and "celebrate success", which encourages them to be proud of achievements. "Take responsibility" inspires them to get things done, keep informed and be ambitious, while "support others" asks them to respect everyone and contribute to the chamber team.
