East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire) aims to be the top of the league when it comes to helping businesses flourish. It was quick to show a red card to the recent proposal for a European Super League given the proud history of its local clubs including, Derby County, Leicester City and two-time European Cup winners Nottingham Forest.

The voice for local businesses in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, it was crowned the 2018 British Chambers of Commerce Chamber of the Year. With a growing membership of more than 4,300 businesses from start up to scale up, local to global, its services range from lobbying and campaigning to helping businesses realise their international trading ambitions, showcasing and market-making activities and workforce training and development.

The Chamber helps its staff flourish, too, from professional development opportunities to social events and away days. Listening to employees, it has introduced wellbeing checks, established an events and social committee to boost camaraderie and a diversity and inclusion network so staff can share experiences and identify improvements they feel need to be made. The Chamber has also invested in wellbeing initiatives including Time for a Cuppa, mental health awareness sessions, values sessions, lunch and learns and bi-weekly briefings.

The Chesterfield-based organisation, which plans to move to agile working once vaccinations are complete, rewards those going above and beyond through its Stars recognition scheme.

The Chamber invites employees to take part in the Generation Next network, a group to support young people and the next generation of business leaders within the East Midlands. The remuneration package includes 25 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays, two annual paid volunteering days, a Bike2Work scheme, a health cash plan, flexibility to take unpaid leave and 8% pension contributions. Staff also get their birthday off and qualify for discounts after three months' service.
