Cybersecurity specialist ESET UK protects the digital lives of home and business computer users and aims to make the internet a safer place for children through its social purpose programme Safer Kids Online, which provides educational materials to protect children from harm.
Founded in Bratislava, Slovakia in 1992, ESET has sales offices in San Diego, Prague, Buenos Aires and Bournemouth and supports a global distribution network in 200 countries with more than 110 million worldwide users. The UK operation employs 72 people in roles ranging from marketing to business development, technical support and finance.
ESET focuses on on-the-job learning and managers are committed to making sure their teams embrace a learning and a listening culture. Their views are gathered through surveys and the staff-led “culture club”. When the group raised concerns about employees' mental health and wellbeing, the company responded with initiatives, including setting up “tea and chat” sessions with mental health first aiders, sending employees ad hoc gifts in the post and supporting charity events.
The business promotes a healthy work-life balance that recognises real-world demands. It rewards hard work and exceptional performance with a range of incentives and benefits, including its performance-bonus scheme, which pays out twice a year, private healthcare and a cycle-to-work scheme.
I am happy with the balance between my work and home life
Mental health first aiders are there to help staff having difficulties. The employee assistance programme’s free helpline offers advice on a range of problems, from legal and financial problems, to providing someone anonymous to talk to. A £35 monthly wellbeing benefit can be spent on anything staff deem beneficial to their health.
This job is good for my own personal growth
With an external provider, the company runs two leadership courses. Its six-month Leadership Summit Programme for senior leaders covers communication, action-based results, strategic collaboration and strength-based leadership. The Leadership Fundamentals Programme, which is aimed at all remaining managers and strategic leaders who do not have a team, looks at self-leadership, team leadership and followership.
This organisation has a strong social conscience
The company’s Safer Kids Online programme is run in partnership with Internet Matters, a non-profit organisation whose remit is to help parents keep their children safe online. It produces educational materials, web resources and classroom-based training for teachers, children and parents, covering topics including cyberbullying and how to protect children from harmful content.
