Open, fair, non-bureaucratic. These aren't just words that appear on the spellchecker at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, they form part of its culture. Europe's largest IT manufacturer cares as much about its staff as it does about the computers it makes. Employees say work is an important part of their life and would recommend others to work here (a 75% positive score in both categories), although people go home exhausted most days (44%). Almost 60% of the 256 staff at the Bracknell-based company earn more than £35,000, and get a minimum of 25 days' paid holiday. Mums-to-be get 10 weeks' full pay while on maternity leave and new dads get a fortnight on full pay. Internal promotion is a regular occurrence, and staff think good performance is appropriately rewarded (68%). Support is evident; staff say that people in their team go out of their way to help each other (77%), think managing director Steve Kendall-Smith is doing a great job (70%), and believe that Fujitsu — responsible for the world's first "green" computer — is doing enough for the environment (74%).
