A mission to provide great housing and support for people in East London is at the heart of Gateway Housing Association.
Gateway is a well-established community-based housing association with just under 3000 properties, primarily in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Its early formation goes back to 1926 when it began life as Bethnal Green Housing Association.
Primarily providing social housing, including rented homes and shared ownership, Gateway has the largest stock holding of housing for older people in Tower Hamlets. This includes 14 sheltered housing schemes and one extra care scheme. The organisation wants to build a reputation for being amongst the best, while remaining commercially astute.
This commitment to being the best extends to its people too, ensuring it was regularly in touch with employees throughout the pandemic. Staff were sent regular ‘Sentiment’ surveys, to gain an insight into how they were working and adjusting during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, to address any issues quickly.
The organisation prides itself on the four core values of ‘PACE’ – namely ‘Proud’, ‘Ambitious’, ‘Customer Focussed’, and ‘Enthusiastic’, all of which influence behaviours, learning and principles.
And when it comes to people, Gateway proudly says it respects people and their differences. Thriving on an inclusive culture, where individuals, teams and the organisation are strengthened by diversity, people from different backgrounds, experiences, and different points of view, this brings a richness of knowledge to help the organisation provide a better service to its customers.
