In 1999, Juliet Davenport wanted to do something that would have real and lasting value for the planet so she founded the UK's first 100% renewable electricity company. For more than 20 years Good Energy has been powering a greener world, generating energy from sun, wind, water and biomass and has its own solar and wind farms.
Today, the Wiltshire-based company, which also provides green gas, serves more than 250,000 customers in homes and businesses across the UK, supplying energy from over 1,600 independent generators and helping thousands share the energy they create.
Good Energy is committed to giving people a job to believe in and as well as getting paid to fight climate change, employees work in a culture aligned to four values: being straight forward, fair, determined and inclusive. Employees inform what their working life looks like, with 24 employee champions across the business playing a key role in how Good Energy develops its practices. They are currently working on the transformation plan for future ways of working.
Development programmes include the Signature Skills Leadership Programme which is open to everyone at every level and staff are rewarded through career progression. Over the past two years, 18% of the workforce was promoted or moved to new roles.
The comprehensive benefits package includes a green travel allowance, an electric vehicle leasing scheme, discounted renewable electricity, mental wellbeing support from mental health first aiders and two big parties a year. A £500 hybrid working allowance is also on the cards.

A support package to help staff deal with the pandemic included an extra five days' leave plus the ability to reduce working hours or do them in a more flexible way. Team briefs increased to fortnightly and mangers were asked to double the time they spent with their teams.

Good Energy sent employees an ethical hamper of gifts for Christmas followed by additional goodies in January to perk people up during a lockdown through the winter months. Staff were encouraged to use Teams to socialise with colleagues with many holding quizzes and drinks in the evenings.
This job is good for my own personal growth
Good Energy spends around £1,000 per person on staff development and introduced an annual £500 personal development allowance per employee which is in addition to any training they need to perform their current role, aimed at encouraging them to learn broader skills, ready for future roles.
