Greene & Company does all it can to live up to its name. The estate agency recycles its waste, lets people know how to make their homes more energy-efficient and plans to give away more than 30,000 reusable shopping bags. A positive score of 80% shows staff believe the firm does its bit for the environment, a top 20 result. People at the estate agency, which deals with buying, selling, letting and property management in northwest London, think managing director David Pollock runs the firm on sound moral principles (84%). He is an inspiration to employees who have a great deal of faith in him (two impressive 89% scores). When it comes to looking after staff Pollock digs deep, from buying drinks to paying for taxis after company events. If someone has health problems and isn't happy with their doctor, they are welcome to make an appointment with Pollock's private doctor at the company's expense. There is an incentive of £100 to stop smoking and people say work isn't taking its toll on their health (83%). Hard work isn't overlooked by managers (a score of 86% ranks the firm 13th) and people say managers care about their job satisfaction (82%). There is a family atmosphere in the teams (82%) and people find colleagues fun to work with (88%). Ad hoc rewards such as a free lunch, shopping vouchers or being allowed to leave the office early are just the tip of the iceberg. Treats, including a three-day weekend in Marrakesh, make staff feel valued and they say the company is run on strong principles (80%). Investment in staff goes further than incentives. Working at Greene & Company is good for personal growth (83%) and employees are sure the experience they gain will be valuable for their future (86%). After three years, an employee is given £100 annually to spend on training of their choice. This doesn't have to be work-related and can be anything from singing lessons to learning a foreign language. Professional and personal development can be discussed weekly with a life coach who keeps people on track with their goals, which are set twice a year. Every year the company holds a three-day training session, the most recent of which took place in a hotel near Oxford. Such events encourage team-building as well as personal development. The firm also pays for its negotiators to sit their National Association of Estate Agents exams. A 72% score shows that employees think the development programmes are of great personal benefit to them.
