Harpenden Building Society has been rooted in the community for 70 years, benefitting Hertfordshire communities and charities through grants, donations and volunteering time. And its staff get two paid-for days a year to help out.

This caring approach is reflected inside the organisation too; it wants its team of more than 80 employees to see it as a great place to work.

Staff can split their time between the office and home, and it offers a range of working patterns to suit individual circumstances. And employees are supported to put their health first with free health assessments and a cash plan that provides money back for services like dental treatment and physio appointments. Colleagues in need can also access specialist services such as counselling.

And "mindful of the need to do the right thing to help colleagues through difficult times," the Building Society has increased pay and made two cost-of-living payments in the past 12 months. All staff are eligible for bonuses too.

Get-togethers include popular quiz nights, and the end-of-year awards event celebrates teams and individuals who've gone the extra mile.

And the organisation's recognition scheme ensures staff are rewarded throughout the year. Managers can offer additional leave, gift vouchers or other treats for a job well done or for behaviours that reflect the values.
