Heathrow Airport needs little introduction to most. Based in London, they're the world's second-busiest airport, measured by international passenger traffic. In 2016, they handled a record 75.7 million passengers, a 1% increase from 2015. The airport lies 14 miles west of Central London, with two parallel east-west runways plus four operational terminals on a 12.27 km sq site. Heathrow Airport is owned and operated by Heathrow Airport Holdings, which is owned by FGP TopCo Limited. Heathrow Airport is the primary hub for British Airways and the primary operating base for Virgin Atlantic. It originated as a small airfield complete with farms, market gardens and orchards. Major development began in 1994, to take military aircraft to the Far East. But the war ended and a civil programme took over. Today, John Holland-Kaye is the Chief Executive Officer and the company keeps staff sweet with five levels of recognition, ‘Diamond Award' winners and recognition lunches.
