Customers of Hexagon Housing Association are given the chance to nominate staff for an annual excellence award if they feel the employee has gone above and beyond their duties.

One chose their resident involvement officer for supporting "everyone in her groups with great enthusiasm, compassion and tireless commitment. She also demonstrates great empathy and superb listening skills, as well as making the groups she facilitates, a pleasant and safe environment for all to enjoy".

Launched in 1990 after the merger of Shackleton Housing Association and Solon South East, the community-based organisation Hexagon provides social and supported housing and manages more than 4,000 homes.

Its primary focus is supplying safe, affordable housing and putting customers at the heart of everything it does. Its head office in south-east London has undergone a big refurbishment to provide a pleasant working environment that offers meeting, collaboration and rest spaces.

A friendly working environment and the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge continually come with working for Hexagon. It also has a real commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The wellbeing of staff members is important and Hexagon has adopted hybrid working, based on feedback from staff who said they would prefer to split their working time between the office and home. To further promote a good work-life balance, they have also introduced more flexible working hours. There are opportunities for staff members to feedback and make suggestions, so the association can continue to improve as an employer.
