Hospitality doesn't stop at the front door at family friendly BBQ restaurant chain, Hickory's Smokehouse. Together as a team and a community Hickory's raised £65,000 throughout lockdown for local families who have been financially affected by Covid-19. Meanwhile, its chefs made more than 3,200 meals funded by its Curbside Pick-Up orders and those who volunteered their time to make it happen.

The story started 11 years ago when founder, Neil McDonnell, went on a road trip to the Southern States and fell in love with the attitude to food and unbridled hospitality and wanted to share what he had discovered. The first UK restaurant opened in Chester in 2010 and there are now 11 venues across north-west England and one in Northern Ireland.

The three Ps– Passion, Personality and Potential – are the qualities Hickory seeks in staff and in return for their commitment it rewards them with training, coaching, the opportunity for career progression and exciting team trips. These include a few days in some of the places which inspired Hickory's such as Louisiana, New Orleans and Mississippi to experience the authentic Southern hospitality upon which the business is built. There are also food and drink trips to Italy, France, Sweden and Scotland.

The fun and friendly culture is underpinned by five core values: Authentic, Welcoming, Passionate, Daring and Community. Throughout the pandemic the team's mental and physical wellbeing has been the company's priority with regular check-in calls and support for those facing financial hardship.
