Hunter Gatherer is a recruitment group that owns and invests in human capital companies in the health care sector, helping them to grow organically and support their own employees. Originally formed as Hunter Health Care in 2011, it identifies markets where they can compete and make a difference.

At the start of the pandemic, senior managers were determined to retain, engage and support staff to ensure the company could emerge from the economic downturn in a stronger position. Although initially two staff were furloughed, it has now recruited 17 new staff, many of them made redundant from other jobs, as market recovery took place.

The company prides itself on being crystal clear with employees about what is expected of them and the rewards they can earn as a result. It outlines a career pathway of six promotional steps from the outset, all of which attract awards linked to the achievement. Managers are given comprehensive training support to progress to the next level.

As an added incentive, top performers are offered an equity stake and the opportunity to start their own company within the group.

The company actively promotes environmentalism with two electric company cars for staff to attend meetings, encouragement to join cycle-to-work schemes and a ban on in-office use of plastic water bottles and take-away coffee cups. Offenders are hit with a £10 donation to charity.

Featured Workplace Factors

Leadership

97% of staff agreed

I have confidence in the leadership skills of the senior management team

Leadership teams kept in daily contact with their team members during the pandemic to hear and take action on concerns. Lessons learned from the first lockdown will be incorporated into future practice when offices fully reopen.

My Company

95% of staff agreed

I believe I can make a valuable contribution to the success of this organisation

Concerned about mental health during the pandemic, Hunter Gatherer created a well-received do-a-good-deed “secret friend” initiative in which employees received help for a week from an unknown colleague. Acts of kindness ranged from delivering home made bread, hand-picked flowers or a favourite coffee to creating a Spotify playlist.

Wellbeing

76% of staff agreed

I am happy with the balance between my work and home life

A performance coach and wellness adviser was appointed to deliver weekly wellbeing survival packages to more than 70 employees. A nutritionist helped staff to build immunity and stay healthy during the lockdowns and leadership teams devised weekly sessions on HIT, yoga, meditation, cooking or learning Spanish.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
