Nature-led design that considers benefits to biodiversity and urban greening from its early stages is being championed by JTP, an award-winning practice of international architects and planners. The aim is to make sure that new development creates the right habitats for both people and wildlife.

Partner Rebecca Taylor is responsible for driving the sustainability agenda, and exploring how sustainable master planning principles can be embedded within projects. She has developed a series of principles around healthy placemaking, looking at the role of design in creating healthy places.

The firm has extensive experience of delivering successful projects for the private and public sectors throughout the UK, Europe, China, Russia and the Middle East. It approaches projects using a process of understanding, engaging and creating, which it calls "collaborative placemaking". JTP says it puts people at the heart of the creative process, unearthing the real needs of community, empowering stakeholders, creating goodwill, inspiring community spirit and building consensus. The result is a shared vision that leads to places that are vibrant, valued and sustainable from the outset.

At the heart of JTP's success is the effort and creative ability of the talented people working at the organisation. The workplace offers a stimulating and enjoyable environment that fosters open communication, knowledge-sharing and creative team working. The structure is non-hierarchical and staff at all levels are encouraged to take on greater degrees of responsibility.

Quote from the top...
In a year with many challenges, ensuring we adopted entirely new and proactive methods of communicating, engaging, motivating and retaining our talented team was essential. Having seamlessly transitioned 130 employees to working from home, we worked closely with individuals and teams to support, enable and encourage them to respond to the challenges of home working. A stimulating workplace is vital to our business success and so we have strived to replicate the collaborative nature of our studios through a range of practice initiatives.
