THERE'S PLENTY OF snap crackle and pop at Kellogg's head office and it's not just because staff get free Rice Krispies for breakfast. Employees have a lot of pride in working for a company which makes cereals that are eaten by 80% of UK households, earning the firm an 84% positive score in our survey. Staff love working for Kellogg (77%), which they think is run on strong values (78%). They have fun with colleagues who care a lot about each other (77% and 79%) and say their health is not suffering because of their job (78%). The company, based in Manchester, comes seventh for staff being happy about their pay and benefits, winning a 72% positive score, and it ranks 11th overall in our Fair Deal category. Almost one in four of the 632 staff has given 10 or more years of their working life to the company. It's not hard to see why employees don't want to leave. In addition to good pay (60% of the head office workforce earns more than £35,000 a year) there is a bonus scheme, a generous pension and share ownership plans. Outstanding performance is recognised through a number of awards which include prizes of up to £200 in the form of store vouchers, theatre tickets, champagne, dinner for two or an extra day's holiday. Financial awards can also be made to staff that have gone beyond the call of duty and can be worth up to 10% of their base salary. Events such as bowling, go-karting and team dinners at up to £35 per head are organised to show appreciation for a job well done. As well as regularly acknowledging good work, managers share important knowledge and information with staff (both 72%). Every employee has an individual development plan which focuses on providing opportunities that are relevant to them. Staff find the experience they gain in their job is valuable for their future (77%) and 111 senior managers promoted from within the organisation are testament to that. Kellogg's benefit system can be tailored to suit each employee and includes childcare vouchers, a cycle-to-work scheme, life insurance, discounts when shopping in high street stores and the opportunity to buy and sell holiday. The annual Christmas party, which is free to employees and heavily subsided for their partners, is a highlight of the calendar. www.kelloggs.co.uk
