Kingsley Napley won Law Firm of the year (Independents) at The Lawyer Awards last year for the quality of its client service and the work it attracts, as well as for its culture. The judges were particularly impressed with its commitment to diversity and inclusion.
The firm makes sure its staff are involved in the business, thanks to an open-door policy that allows them to approach managers with questions or difficulties. KN also consults staff about large projects that affect them. Employees are kept up to date on all management decisions through the KNer newsletter, which also highlights the contributions that “KNers” make to the community through fund-raising and volunteering.
Kingsley Napley is enthusiastic about "giving back" and last year donated £93,000 to 40 charities, including the Alzheimer’s Society, Hackney Foodbank, Ukrainian refugees, WellChild, a charity for seriously ill children, and Stonewall.
Staff morale is boosted by the KN Recognition Awards. They provide a great way to recognise an individual’s hard work, as well as the opportunity to celebrate colleagues for their achievements and behaviours in line with the firm's values.
The London-based law firm offers legal services across 11 disciplines. It insists on providing a high degree of personalised service to all clients and many lawyers are leaders in their fields, earning the firm top rankings in legal directories. Core principles of teamwork and respect, integrity and fairness, commitment and understanding are reflected in every way Kingsley Napley operates.
I am happy with the balance between my work and home life
An annual budget of more than £100,000 supports staff wellbeing. It covers services and support that range from access to a virtual GP and therapy, and staging mental health awareness events, to chair massages and an on-site beautician. An employee assistance programme and health cash plan are available to all staff.
My team is fun to work with
Each team has an annual budget of £250 per head to spend on team events and activities. At Christmas, teams are given cash for a Christmas lunch. The firm also pays for intra-department socials throughout the year, including the Christmas party. It funds netball and football teams and the KN choir.
I feel proud to work for this organisation
The firm encourages staff to be more environmentally responsible, by including an "environmental tip of the week" in its newsletter. KN's wellness subsidy of £200 every 12 months can be claimed for eco-friendly activities such as installing solar power, buying compost equipment or taking part in environmental courses.
