Kyan
Kyan calls itself “a technology agency powered by people”, but its people may not conform to some corporate stereotypes: it is an enthusiastic advocate of geekiness.
When it comes to recruitment, the Guildford-based small company looks for fit and aptitude over qualifications and experience. It operates a flat structure in which teams collaborate on designing, coding and building digital products.
Its core values are drive, generosity and, yes, geekiness. The message for potential recruits is that it's challenging work but fun as well.
The formula seems to be working. Founded in 2002, it has a workforce of 50 and an impressive list of clients including Sage, Canada Life, Deloitte and Allied British Foods.
Kyan's strategists, designers and engineers create technology solutions from scratch or by working as an extension of a client's team. As part of the B Corp network, it believes in a triple bottom line of people, profit, planet.
A recent project involved Kyan working with Sightsavers to improve its online donation platform. The charity wanted to find a solution that would allow it to tailor how the platform works across many different regions of the world and cater for different currencies and payment methods.
To ensure widespread usability, Kyan integrated the platform with Stripe and PayPal, and the end result was a reliable donation system that can be used all over the world to make a difference to people's eyesight.
