Landbay opened its doors in 2014 with the goal of creating a more accessible buy-to-let mortgage marketplace for investors, borrowers and brokers. It is an intermediary-only lender and its institutional funders include large financial institutions who use capital markets and retail banks supervised by the Prudential Regulation Authority.

This mid-size company, based in central London, has an experienced lending and management team and is a member of UK Finance and the Intermediary Mortgage Lenders Association. It has been selected for the Deloitte Fast 50 and the Mortgage Introducer awards. One of Landbay's aims is to become the go-to funding partner for the private rental sector. It reported low levels of mortgage holidays during the pandemic.

As part of the company's underwriting process, the quality of rental property is assessed and standards such as minimum room size are monitored. It operates a flat management structure and staff roles include underwriting, finance and software engineering. Among the benefits on offer are health insurance, share options, a pension scheme and enhanced maternity and paternity leave.

There are regular social get-togethers and people are encouraged to lead charity events within the business to raise funds and resources for their chosen causes. This has benefitted Macmillan cancer nurses, Save the Children and Samaritans.

Landbay uses local suppliers where possible and provides employees with Victoria Privilege cards, which encourage spending at local businesses in SW1 through discounts.

Landbay has partnered with the Cardinal Hume Centre in London to support local people facing homelessness and poverty by donating £10 for every mortgage completion. Last year furloughed staff took it upon themselves to rebuild the centre's web page, which produced more contributions and raised awareness.
