Since it switched to hybrid working, the Law Officers’ Department has had great feedback from staff. They say that its approach to flexibility makes it a "really nice place to work". One member of staff said: "I’ve never been happier."
The department says it offers staff a rewarding and varied career and has a clear and transparent career structure and a supportive and nurturing team culture.
It is run on an "open-door" principle and encourages ideas and feedback from staff. Employees can have their say in team meetings, directly to line managers or to the members of the senior management team. The annual departmental get-together also provides a forum at which feedback is welcomed.
The attorney general role has been assisted by a solicitor general since at least the 16th century and both roles are Crown appointments, known collectively as "the Law Officers". Today, the Law Officers are supported by a department of more than 80 staff, based in Morier House, in St Helier, Jersey, adjacent to the Island’s Royal Court and States Assembly buildings.
The department provides legal advice to the Government of Jersey, the States Assembly and the Crown. It is an independent public prosecution service for the Island and protects the interests of the Crown and government in civil proceedings. It also assists overseas law enforcement agencies and carries out the statutory and customary law duties of the attorney general.
