Learning Curve Group's mission to “transform lives through learning” includes the more than 500 people who work there. Staff (known as Purple People) are encouraged in their professional development. Opportunities to upskill include specialist training, a performance appraisal process, work shadowing, management development and the Purple People Apprenticeship Academy.

LCG's pay structure recognises people's contributions to the success of the business. Benefits on offer include pension contributions, healthcare and tech and cycle schemes. Based in Spennymoor, Co Durham, the business is a national training and education specialist, working with further education providers, employers and learners to help them achieve success.

It started in 2004 and has grown organically and by acquisition. Through its training programmes, LCG supports more than 5,000 businesses and 150,000 learners every year.

Its core values are innovation through collaboration, doing the right thing, developing and empowering its staff, continuous improvement and putting learners at the centre of everything it does. During the pandemic last year its training schedule was replaced with topics that colleagues would find more valuable and revolved around managing teams remotely.

The company supported teaching and learning staff to get online as quickly and effectively as possible to ensure its learners stayed on track. Its quality team hosted remote training sessions on how to use Teams, Zoom and SmartRoom to conduct lessons. LCG also implemented a new online induction process for its apprenticeship division.

Quote from the top...

Learning Curve Group wouldn’t be the successful business it is today without the dedicated staff that work hard day-in-day-out to transform lives through learning. As LCG continues to grow it is extremely important to me that we keep the strong culture that we have here. We want to continuously find ways to make our workplace the best it can possibly be for our dedicated and passionate people. We know that if our staff are happy, we can change more lives through learning. This is why this year we have introduced 5 new company benefits in response to what our employees said would improve their happiness at work.

Brenda McLeish, Chief Executive Officer - Learning Curve Group
