PIMP MY DESK is the name of this direct marketing agency's latest incentive for staff — half of whom, at under 26, belong to the MTV generation that has made Pimp My Ride, about celebrities' show-off cars, a television hit. Staff who excel on six levels of achievement at Market Makers earn leather briefcases and dual computer monitors or salt away bonus points for spa days or stunt flying treats. Market Makers notches up its highest position yet in its fourth year as a Best Company. The business increased its staff by more than 50% to 155 last year and doubled its profits, using telemarketing and telesales to help companies to generate more business. Clients include HSBC, Holiday Inn and Microsoft. In the past six months 75 new faces have appeared in the Portsmouth office and there is good scope to learn and grow (82%). The firm offers free weekly circuit training — where directors join in. Paul Thomas and Henry Braithwaite, who founded the company in 2004, truly live the values of the agency (89%), which include being the best you can be every day. Staff acknowledge that managers motivate them to give their best (84%) and help them to fulfil their potential (85%). This is not a stressful workplace (88%, a top 10 score). Market Makers encourages making an effort for charity (93%) and the entire workforce joined in last year to raise £48,000 for Building Schools for Africa, funding health clinics as well as education in villages in Cameroon, through dress-up days, marathon sponsorship, a world record rock climb and a black-tie ball. Employees thought up a fist symbol for the firm to express the power of people working together, like the fingers on a hand. Everyone finishes early on Fridays to celebrate the week's successes and managers regularly express appreciation (87%). www.marketmakers.co.uk
