Family values are what drive the culture at Mercedes-Benz South West, thanks to Chairman Anthony Wickins’ long-standing belief that putting these at the heart of the organisation will lead to its ongoing success.

Wickins’ son, Mike, is Managing Director at the motor and aftersales company, and remains committed alongside his colleagues to deliver greater value by continuing to improve service levels and the quality of the customer experience.

This commitment is one that looks to build on the company’s already impressive track record, which has seen it enjoy fantastic success and record some significant business achievements. These include undertaking a multi-million-pound investment programme to create four state-of-the-art automotive retailing outlets aimed at enhancing sales and after sales facilities for customers across the region.

At Mercedes-Benz South West, people are considered to be the greatest asset, and the Senior Management Team are committed to providing a fair, supportive and engaging place to work.

Part of this is an unwavering support of employees’ development. Thanks to having access to world class training through Mercedes-Benz, staff can take advantage of a blend of e-learning, learning through a virtual classroom, and face-to-face learning. This is part of a structured career pathway which enables the company to continually expand the knowledge and ability of its workforce to meet the demands of what is an ever-evolving industry, combined with an appraisal programme that allows individuals to tailor their development to their own interests.

Giving Something Back

Recognising the challenges facing the fundraising initiatives of charities during the pandemic, the organisation gave each of its sites a budget of £10,000 and invited staff to recommend local charities to benefit from a proportion of the funds. In total £50,000 was donated to charities across the South West of England.

My Manager

An internal Future Leaders Programme has seen the organisation create its own bespoke management training programme, designed to identify, and develop, future managers. Offering a unique training package tailored to the individual, the programme teaches the essential skills required to be a successful manager and includes project work across the business.

Wellbeing

Throughout the pandemic the organisation provided helpful tools on mental and physical wellbeing, managing mental health during coronavirus, adjusting to working from home, and maintaining a good work/life balance. It also ran a photo competition to encourage employees to get outside to take daily exercise and share pictures of their local area.
