David Attenborough's Blue Planet TV series was a rallying cry that led to the creation of Modern Milkman. Four friends responded to the call to reduce plastic waste in our oceans by starting a milk round in Colne, Lancashire, based on the tradition of reusable glass bottles.

From there they expanded, creating a network of milkmen and women, connecting regional dairies in the north-west and their communities. The company has also extended its return-and-reuse range and incorporated the latest mobile tech to make ordering easy.

Milk rounds also deliver a range of fresh groceries in plastic-free packaging. Household products come in refillable glass containers and tea and coffee in returnable metal caddies.

Modern Milkman’s mission is to revolutionise consumer habits by supplying fresh ways to shop ethically and feel good about convenience. Milk rounds deliver three times a week and are easily managed online, so that shopping sustainably is convenient and accessible.

Every milk bottle returned is washed and reused by the dairies about 25 times, which saves waste and unnecessary recycling.

One of the company's core principles is: "We do the right thing." It means it does its best to make choices that are kind to the environment; in everything it does, it keeps honesty, integrity and humility top of mind; its staff are advocates for each other, for the cause and our planet; and it leads by example and, above all else, with compassion.
