Orbis
Walks around the streets of London and Hong Kong gave birth to recruiter, Orbis. Its co-founders, Craig Davies and Wayne Hilditch, were based at opposite ends of the globe, but talked almost daily of their vision for the company they would run together.
Orbis's name, meaning "global", reflects the mission to create a worldwide recruitment agency, catering to diverse tech markets. It was set up in the back of a friend's office with five staff, but now has more than 50 employees, based in London, Amsterdam, New York, Nashville, Miami, Los Angeles and Austin.
There are plans to more than double that number to 120 employees by the end of 2022, with seven office sites across three continents.
Its clients include online homewares seller, Wayfair, review website, Tripadvisor, and financial media and data company, Bloomberg. Alongside recruitment, the company offers a bespoke employer branding package.
Orbis’s driving values are "be real", "inspire excellence" and "exceed expectations". They are reflected in the company culture. Working for Orbis means having the freedom to challenge things, receive the support you need to thrive and an alternative to a strict culture based on key performance indicators.
For staff, Orbis cultivates an environment in which colleagues are supported and their achievement is celebrated. It says: "We maintain a mindset in which we all strive to be our best. Everyone on the team is genuinely encouraging and proud of one another."
