Oyster Partnership is one of the UK's leading specialist property sector recruitment consultancies. Established in 2004, it has more than 60 people working with public, private and third-sector organisations to manage their resource challenges at both strategic and day-to-day levels.
The small London-based company prides itself on the workplace being a genuine meritocracy and believes the diversity of its workforce is the best possible testament to this inclusiveness. In the same way, the partnership works with clients at all stages of their careers when recruiting for contract, permanent and interim roles.
On the night of the first national lockdown staff downloaded Zoom – relatively unknown to them at the time – and by that Monday morning Sasza Bandiera, the Managing Director, held a meeting to update people on moving forward, and to put minds at ease. Post-lockdown, Oyster's new Work From Anywhere policy allows employees to continue contributing from wherever suits them best.
The company lends its support in to several specific ventures. One is the John Fisher School in South London, a secondary school for boys of all abilities and all backgrounds and where the MD went to school. And, working in the property sector, it is particularly proud to back the charity LandAid in its aim to bring the industry together to provide safe, suitable and affordable accommodation for young people facing homelessness.
I have confidence in the leadership skills of my manager
The Oyster Academy, a bespoke 12-week training programme academy, combines classroom-style learning with on-the-floor coaching for new recruits to recruiting. However, targets were adjusted to consider the pandemic and managers were mindful of this when undertaking quarterly appraisals. Disciplinaries were not handed out to those who did not hit target since March 2020.
I feel proud to work for this organisation
Head of People Hannah Clarke sat with the company's Investors in People assessor for detailed feedback from the IIP interview. Changes made in response included the entire management team going on mental health first-aiders course and staff now being able to give feedback on how they felt they were being managed.
My organisation encourages charitable activities
Each employee gets two days' extra leave each year to vounteer. The Octavia Foundation – which supports people in the capital affected by ill health, social isolation, low income or unemployment – is another cause that is close to people's hearts at Oyster, and the charity featured the company in its newsletter in thanks.
