Manchester United football club is one of security company Paxton’s most prestigious clients. The Brighton-based firm designs and makes security systems for buildings around the world.

At Old Trafford, its task was to provide a flexible system to release and lock the stadium’s exit gates. With a capacity of 76,000, the stadium needed a system that would allow fans to leave safely after a match.

Other clients include Cherbourg airport, Foyles bookshop in London, and Graze, the snack company. Paxton is responsible for securing about 25,000 buildings around the globe.

It was set up in 1985 by Anthony Brotherton-Ratcliffe and remains a family-owned business. As well as the Brighton headquarters, it has a factory in Eastbourne and employs more than 350 people in 12 countries. It exports to more than 60 countries.

For staff, Paxton focuses on career progression, training and development. It recognises achievement and ensures its workplaces nurture a positive culture and environment. The company offers a variety of career opportunities, from research and development and product design, to engineering, IT, finance, training, marketing, technical support and supply chain and procurement roles.

Benefits include AXA membership, health insurance, GymfFex membership and bike loans.

Adam Stroud, Paxton’s chief executive, says: “To ensure our employees are engaged, we focus on a number of elements, including treating all individuals with respect, ensuring they are challenged and stretched within their roles, investing in their talent and development and, most of all, having fun at work — with a dedication to excellent work/life balance.”
