RHA housing association is based in Rhondda, Cynon Taff, South Wales. Owning and managing over 1800 homes, the group has been the main provider of new social housing in the area in recent years, delivering over 350 new homes since 2015. Having recently celebrated its 40th anniversary in January 2020, it is now one of the longest-serving social landlords in Wales with over 40 years' experience of delivering high-quality services to tenants and stakeholders.
The team of 70-plus staff work with partners to deliver more than just housing. The not-for-profit organisation strives to build sustainable communities and improve the quality of life for tenants. It accomplishes this by increasing opportunities for employment and skills, and by promoting social inclusion.
RHA, formerly the Rhondda Housing Association and new to our list this year, is proud of its passionate people who care about the communities they live and work in. It has strong employee engagement and a track record of high staff satisfaction levels. The delivery of its People Strategy in recent years has seen the organisation make positive changes in introducing flexible working for all, offering enhanced health and wellbeing provision, training and development, and improved terms and conditions.
More recently, the social landlord supported its people through the pandemic. It offered increased mental health and wellness support, and Hapus, its staff engagement group, organised regular opportunities for people to come together and share experiences in a bid to combat loneliness and isolation.

Senior managers operate in a spirit of openness and transparency and the executive team uses virtual staff meetings to communicate with everyone. This includes a vlog by CEO Luke Takeuchi and posts on the in-houseTeams channel and online messageboard. Tenants are consulted, too, to place them at the heart of decision-making.

RHA surveyed staff once they had been working from home for a number of weeks to see how the changes had affected them. Following on from this, it took the decision to implement a permanent flexible working policy to support people in balancing their professional responsibilities and other commitments.
This job is good for my own personal growth
MyPlan, a new RHA competency framework, sets out the attributes required to perform at various levels of the association and runs alongside a programme of support in relation to technical capability. The two systems offer tailored individual development plans and allow employees to explore attaining higher-grade roles.
