Ryder Architecture was founded in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1953. Today, its teams collaborate across the UK and internationally, with a shared commitment to the ethos of “Everything architecture – to improve the quality of the world around us and, in doing so, improve people’s lives.”

By the nature of its business, Ryder has identified environmental awareness as an urgent topic in which it plays an important role. It wants sustainability to be embedded across the practice, with a goal of net zero in its business operations by 2025 and to deliver net zero whole-life carbon projects by 2030.

The company's dedicated sustainability team consists of people with a building physics and environmental engineering background, whose focus is on improving the impact of its projects and business operations.

It also has an environmental group, which comprises 16 people from across the practice with representation from all regions. The group acts as a sounding board and conduit for the teams.

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity (ED&I) are embedded within Ryder’s culture, with the company committed to sharing ideas, actions, and resources across teams and within its

At Ryder we have been passionate about our people since we first introduced our team structure, benefits such as profit share and sabbaticals in 1994. We place great emphasis on making a difference both individually and collectively. Our Ryder360 programme, ran by colleagues across the practice, offers opportunities for personal growth, moments for wellbeing and giving back. Whilst our inclusivity training has led to the introduction of gender pronouns and a greater appreciation of equality and diversity within the business.
