“Our goal is simple — to improve the quality of the world around us and, in doing so, improve people's lives” says Ryder Architecture, which was established in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1953 by two entrepreneurial architects who worked with legendary names Le Corbusier and Ove Arup and first met in the office of Berthold Lubetkin – the creator of the world-renowned penguin pool at London Zoo, an absolute icon of modern architecture.

Ryder now has a team of over 240 passionate people operating in Newcastle, London, Glasgow, Liverpool, Hong Kong, Vancouver and Amsterdam – all reinforced by global connectivity of the Ryder Alliance.

The company delivers pioneering architectural and design services across a diverse portfolio of sectors including residential, manufacturing, leisure, health, office and university. Projects have ranged from the Cambridge Biomedical Campus to Kowloon East Regional Police Headquarters in Hong Kong, and Newcastle Central Station to Flinders Street Station in Melbourne, Australia.

By the nature of its business Ryder has identified environmental awareness as an urgent topic in which it plays an important role. It wants sustainability to be embedded across the practice. The company's approach is structured around key environmental factors including operational energy; internal environment; embodied carbon, performance and data; resources; land use; and ecology and water.

The goal is to be net zero in its business operations by 2025 and to be delivering net zero whole-life carbon projects by 2030.
