Established in 1991, Scottish Enterprise (SE) merged with the former Scottish Development Agency and the Scottish Training Agency to form one integrated body. SE established a network of 12 local enterprise companies (LECs) to deliver economic development covering Lowland Scotland, Grampian and the Scottish Borders. In April 2002, SE merged with Careers Scotland. Their primary purpose is to support business and industry to help create equal opportunities for all in Scotland. They are a hub of knowledge and expertise and believe in collaboration and strong partnership whilst being responsive, flexible and practical. The company's purpose, values and vision are threaded through all of their employee engagement activities, which include New Today articles - 3 articles are published each day covering business matters and relevant stories from throughout the organisation. They hold a Quarterly Focus, where important topics are discussed in more detail and there is also a People Manager's brief which is a monthly publication for managers in this role. Scottish Enterprise run a ‘Total Reward' approach – there are a range of benefits, both financial and non-financial which are designed to reflect their culture and recognise, reward and develop colleagues throughout their careers. The company's strategy encourages a personal approach, recognising working life, wellbeing, planning for the future and lifestyle. There are a number of other recognition benefits, which include long service awards for 15, 25 and 35 years' service, with extra annual leave in the year of the long service anniversary; formal recognition of retirement with afternoon tea and a gift and there are also awards for instant recognition in the form of gift vouchers.

People in my team go out of their way to help me
SE's wellbeing policy demonstrates their commitment to encourage a supportive environment where employees are able to seek help and advice if experiencing stress, and steps are taken to ensure the health of employees is not placed at risk through excessive workplace pressure. The company's Employee Counselling scheme gives all UK based employees access to a free, confidential counselling service, 24 hours a day (as well as face to face sessions if required). SE's Healthshield programme also gives colleagues the chance to claim money back on therapies such as massage, known to promote relaxation and reduce stress. They have a number of colleagues who are trained harassment advisors and can be contacted confidentially by anyone who feels they may be subject to harassment or bullying (in addition to support offered by line managers, HR practitioners and formal grievance processes).
