THOUSANDS OF ANIMALS are saved from danger by the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. As well as protecting domestic, farm and wild animals, rescue centres find new homes for thousands more. Staff show they are proud to work here with a positive score of 86% in our employee survey. They believe the Scottish SPCA, based in Dunfermline, makes a real difference to the world (83%). More employees here say work is an important part of their life than at any other mid-sized organisation on the list (84%). Staff believe they can make a valuable contribution to the organisation's success (80%). One-to-one and team meetings, email messages, annual customer care seminars and conferences put the workforce of 247 people in the picture although they are spread around 14 different sites. Staff know just what is expected of them (70%) and go out of their way to provide a good service, (91%). Our survey shows staff think they have a positive future ahead of them in the Scottish SPCA (69%). Five of the nine senior managers were promoted from within the ranks. As a leading champion of animal welfare, the Scottish SPCA never lets up encouraging respect and kindness for animals. It hosts more than 3,000 school visits a year and works with the Scottish government, local councils and community groups. Staff say they are not bored at work (80%) and their deadlines are realistic (70%). Both scores are in fourth place and people are not looking to leave tomorrow if they had another job to go to (74%). scottishspca.org

The Society has a flexible and pragmatic approach to dealing with staff issues and the philosophy is very much ‘let's find a way to make this work' rather than ‘lets find a way to say no'. In this respect and in many other ways the Scottish SPCA is a ‘Can Do' organisation.
