Lockdown was a less formidable challenge for SourceBreaker than many other businesses because it already encouraged flexible working, but the tech company did not rest on its laurels.

Rewards, social activities and communications, core elements of SourceBreaker's culture, were swiftly adapted to suit the lockdown restrictions.

Company-wide meetings were stepped up from one to three times a week to provide information and reassurance. Staff were rewarded with more time off, such as half-day Thursdays once a month, to help them avoid burnout from the blurred lines between work and home life.

A full calendar of activities, including cookalongs, arts and crafts, running and book clubs, maintained interaction between employees. Later in the pandemic, when a survey showed some people needed a little nudge to keep up their routines and wellness, twice-weekly lunchtime fitness sessions were introduced.

More than 60 people work for London-based SourceBreaker, which has developed an award-winning platform used by recruiters around the world. Using artificial intelligence, it helps to identify more of the best talent in less time.

When it comes to recruiting its own talent, SourceBreaker believes that potential outweighs qualifications. All but two of the leadership team started in junior positions just a few years ago, with no direct qualifications in their roles.
