St Michael’s Hospice is an independent charity that exists to help and support patients and their families living with a terminal illness.
The organisation provides a full range of services to support people at the end of their life and their loved ones. This includes inpatient care, support at home, bereavement care and, education to other professionals involved in end of life care.
As well as taking care of it patients, St Michael’s Hospice also prides itself on taking care of its employees.
The organisation has an open Wellbeing Strategy that includes one-to-ones with managers where employees are encourage to speak about any concerns or issues that they may have. Managers at St Michael’s Hospice have received Mental Health First Aid training and provide supervision, coaching, and mentoring.
Employees also have access to Occupational Health and an Employee Assistance Programme that includes laughing yoga, acupuncture, financial wellbeing sessions, and offers discounts to local gyms.
Furthermore, the organisation has an online wellbeing portal that is full of advice and support for employees to access whenever they need it.
As well as employee wellbeing, St Michael’s Hospice also takes care to help its employees with their careers. Employees can undertake secondments and apprenticeships to further their learning, and employee training needs are analysed by management on a regular basis.
The organisation has an online learning partnership with closely linked organisations such as the local NHS Trust which helps to deliver training.
