Stockport Homes Group provides accommodation for more than 30,000 customers – and about 100,000 bees.

Two hives have been installed on the roof of SHG's headquarters as part of its efforts to give something back to the environment. Other measures include solar PV electricity and an electric pool-bike scheme. A 22-storey tower block managed by SHG has been converted to biomass energy, cutting its carbon footprint by 90%.

This arm's length management organisation manages the borough council's 11,500 homes and delivers related services for homeless people, sheltered accommodation residents and people with disabilities. It is developing more homes for rent or shared ownership, and repairs and maintains 50 schools and retirement homes.

SHG's mission of “One team, transforming lives” was well demonstrated during the pandemic, when staff who were unable to do their jobs from home volunteered to take on alternative responsibilities to support front-line services.

They helped to answer more than 8,000 welfare calls from vulnerable residents during the main restrictions and made deliveries for SHG's community food stores, known as Pantries.

The Pantries worked with the council and local foodbanks to provide nearly 4,500 food parcels to people in need.

SHG's senior leadership team worked hard to to keep the workforce connected during the pandemic. The annual colleague festival was livestreamed for the first time. The theme was "#15 years of transforming lives", as SHG was founded in 2005, and the event included awards and a directors Q&A.
